Humans, like all mammals, learn through play. This is especially true for children. The core memories so many adults have from school are ones of doldrums, wishing they were somewhere else doing something they loved. While we’re still stuck with school as the place where children have to spend most of their childhood, let’s make it a place where learners are checked in, because they’re doing something they would actually choose to do: play!
Andy Charlton has spent over 14 years in the classroom in just about every kind of school setting teaching every subject. Centering fun as the starting point, and play as the method, his teaching brings students closer together, ready to take risks, and constantly involved in actual thinking. He makes games tailored to his learners, and also leads Dungeons and Dragons class at The Greenfield Center school and is a DM for hire in Western Massachusetts.
